THE NEXT SURVIVOR SERIES

THE NEXT SURVIVOR SERIES

Six married men will be dropped on an island with one car and 3 kids each for six weeks.

Each kid will play two sports and either take music or dance classes.
There is no fast food.
Each man must take care of his 3 kids; keep his assigned house clean, correct all homework, and complete science projects , cook, do laundry, and pay a list of 'pretend' bills with not enough money.

In addition, each man will have to budget in money for groceries each week.

Each man must remember the birthdays of all their friends and relatives, and send cards out on time--no emailing.
Each man must also take each child to a doctor's appointment, a dentist appointment and a haircut appointment.
He must make one unscheduled and inconvenient visit per child to the Urgent Care.
He must also make cookies or cupcakes for a social function.
Each man will be responsible for decorating his own assigned house, planting flowers outside and keeping it presentable at all times.
The men will only have access to television when the kids are asleep and all chores are done.
The men must shave their legs, wear makeup daily, adorn himself with jewelry, wear uncomfortable yet stylish shoes, keep fingernails polished and eyebrows groomed.

During one of the six weeks, the men will have to endure severe abdominal cramps, back aches, and have extreme, unexplained mood swings but never once complain or slow down from other duties.
They must attend weekly school meetings, church, and find time at least once to spend the afternoon at the park or a similar setting.
They will need to read a book to the kids each night and in the morning, feed them, dress them, brush their teeth and comb their hair by 7:00 am.

A test will be given at the end of the six weeks, and each father will be required to know all of the following information:
each child's birthday, height, weight, shoe size, clothes size and doctor's name.
Also the child's weight at birth, length, time of birth, and length of labor, each child's favorite color, middle name, favorite snack, favorite song, favorite drink, favorite toy, biggest fear and what they want to be when they grow up.

The kids vote them off the island based on performance.
The last man wins only if...he still has enough energy to be intimate with his spouse at a moment's notice.
If the last man does win, he can play the game over and over and over again for the next 18-25 years,

eventually earning the right to be called Mother!

Some Reading For You

I was reading Khadijateri's blog and came across her reference to My Enchanting Sereeb blog post on her recent visit back to Libya and laughed myself silly because she is so real about everything she went through on her visit . Some of it was sad too because as some one once said , " you can never go home again " .

I also came across this post by My Being Days which is a pictorial composition of the similarities between Nazi Germany's treatment of the Jews in WW2 and the Israeli's treatment of the Palestinians now in Gaza . You should see the pictures . See if you can spot any difference between the THEN and the NOW . I bet you can't .

Fitz & Dizzyspells AND Take Me To The River

I saw Andrew Bird on David Letterman's show the other night (Jan.27, 2009) and loved him . His song "Fitz & Dizzyspells" was reminiscent of punk , in the style of David Bryne of The Talking Heads fame from the 1970-80's . I have included a David Bryne video besides the Andrew Bird video for you to listen to and see what you think .

Forgetter Be Forgotten

Got this in my latest bath of emails last night and had to post it because it is so true , lol !

Forgetter Be Forgotten

M
y forgetter's getting better,
But my rememberer is broke
To you that may seem funny
But, to me, that is no joke

F
or when I'm 'here' I'm wondering
If I really should be 'there'
And, when I try to think it through,
I haven't got a prayer!

O
ft times I walk into a room,
Say 'what am I here for?'
I wrack my brain, but all in vain!
A zero, is my score.

A
t times I put something away
Where it is safe, but, Gee!
The person it is safest from
Is, generally, me!

W
hen shopping I may see someone,
Say 'Hi' and have a chat,
Then, when the person walks away
I ask myself, 'who the hell was that?'

Y
es, my forgetter's getting better
While my rememberer is broke,
And it's driving me plumb crazy
And that isn't any joke.

Got Gas !

I guess it has been a while since I last posted huh ? Been doing some of this and some of that , but not a whole lot of any of it , if I can get by with it .

The big project of the week was grocery shopping this past Saturday, which of course , my luck , wasn't so cut and dry .When ever I have to buy grocery's or have a ton of shopping to do , I try to get one my friends sons to carry the bags up the many stairs for me since that is way beyond my ability anymore .I of course bribe them shamelessly and they accept happily .BUT ..... they are growing up and are becoming too proud to do this much anymore . Their mother nags them into Thank God !I really don't know what we would do with out them to tell the truth .But in order to use their services , I have to do these errands on a Saturday when they are off from school .They like to sleep late and so do I , so that works out fine most times , BUT this last Saturday was different.

I needed a new tank of propane cooking gas, as the one I was using ran out in the middle of baking a casserole ,of course ! So ? You say ? Well , you see , the petrol station has tanks of propane gas , but they come only on certain days of the week and go quickly . That day isn't a Saturday , of course . Wouldn't that make my life easy ? There is a little hole in the wall place that sells the gas tanks not too far from the Condo. Most of the times their tanks are fairly newish and do not leak .This is important as there is nothing worse than NOT waking up in the morning due to dying in the night from being gassed to death by a leaky gas tank , right?

One problem with this little place, the man that works it takes his siesta to heart and has one everyday promptly at 1:30 in the afternoon . He doesn't reopen until around 5 P.M.ish . Ok , well.....the boys don't like to wake up before 2 P.M.ish and are not very happy with me when I make them wake up earlier .Especially when this involves carrying very heavy things like gas tanks up flights of stairs .

My friend and I managed to convince one of the boys that it would be well worth his while to wake up early on his day off and do the gas tank for me .I go get the guy . Drive to the Condo , wait in the car while he goes up and gets the old tank , brings it down to the car , puts into the trunk of the car and away we go to get the new tank from the hole in the wall place. Sigh !

We get there . The pickings are slim this time around , which means the gas station didn't get their tank supply this past week. The man has had a run on his supply's . I remind my guy to make SURE the tank doesn't leak . Be SURE to check it . Ok he says !He picks one puts it into the car trunk and away we go to the Condo .By the time we get there we can already smell that distinctive rat poison smell that the gas has pouring out of the car trunk when it was opened .Oh DAM !So .... we get back in the car and dash back over to the place to make an exchange of tanks .The man was closed . Gone for siesta time and not coming back until early evening .Double dam !!Now what to do ?

If I have managed to get one of the boys so early in the day , it is a cinch I won't find them anywhere after 5 P.M. when the place will have opened back up .What to do ? I think about it for a few minutes and come up with what I think is a fool proof plan .I tell the guy I will pay him when I pick him back up around 5ish to change the gas tanks and he agrees . Yeah !!!Problem solved .

5 P.M. rolls around.I go down to the car and smell that smell . I open the car door and wave after wave of gas comes pouring out of the car .Thank God no one lite a cigarette near my car !It would have blown up like a terrorist car bomb! After I air the car out I drive to the boys house to get the boy . I honk my horn , which is the signal to come down to my car , and no kid . Shock horror !I honk again and still no kid .Finally after a 15 minute wait a different kid comes down to go with me.Ok , whatever , a kid , that's all I need .We drive back to the place . The guy there laughs when my guy tells him our tank leaks and we need to exchange it .He points out one he thinks will be ok .We take a chance and get it .

We get to the Condo. He hauls it up all the stairs . We connect it to the stove . The I light the burner to see if it works .I then found out why it doesn't leak .... hardly any pressure ! Oh well , at least it sorta works .I have a tank and am not complaining at all ! It only takes 3 hours to cook a meal now , as opposed to 1 hour before ,but hey , who cares . Another adventure brought to you by Life in Libya !

I was Tagged

I was tagged !

I was tagged by Argentum Vulgaris on his blog " Things That Fizz and Stuff " .He asked me to go into my computer , find my 4th file , which happens to be copies of old blog posts of mine, then go to the 4th file in THAT file .I was instructed to post the image from that file . I went there, but there wasn't a picture from that post.

It was a post on my favorite columnist , Leon Hale for the Houston Chronicle .He has written for one or the other of several news papers that Houston has had off and on over the years . Right now though , they are down to just one news paper The Houston Chronicle .

Mr.Hale writes of things that older Houstonians like me remembers . He writes about things that happened in the past , or the present, with a cast of characters. He has a hugh following for his column and his blog . He is simi retired , which many of us dislike but live with because the alternative is unthinkable . He threatens to quite altogether ever now and then and throws all of his fans into turmoil , lol. He is in his 80's but one would never know .

He has a faithful following fan base for his blog .They write comments for every post expressing their opinions on the selected subject of the day, which in turn leads to other subjects until some one or another remembers the topic at hand . Many a lively discussion has taken place on his blog between his cast of followers; such as Sandra O"Conner ,eli ,Red, Ms.Judy Oaks, Ralph W.,and my favorite, Old Cowboy who writes only in capital letters and misspells worse that me and knows no grammar whatsoever!

When ever I am homesick , I just read Mr.Hales blog and it is like I am back home in a blink of a eye .Since there wasn't any pictures for this post in the file , I have posted instead a picture of downtown Houston take from along the Buffalo Bayou that runs through downtown Houston . It is the same bayou that the Allan brothers floated down to found the hamlet of Houston in 1836 . The world famous singer Kenny Rodgers grew up not too far from this same bayou .

Tears Of Joy

It has been literally years since I have been so proud to be a American but watching the inaugural yesterday saw tears of pride coursing down my checks non stop . I caught myself saying over and over , Yes that's correct or that's how it is supposed to be in America . God help the man to be brave and wise . Hopefully , somehow , I believe he will try his best to uphold his promises . Call me naive . Below is a copy of president Obama's speech if you would like to read it for yourself as printed from CNN News .

My fellow citizens:

I stand here today humbled by the task before us, grateful for the trust you have bestowed, mindful of the sacrifices borne by our ancestors. I thank President Bush for his service to our nation, as well as the generosity and cooperation he has shown throughout this transition.

Forty-four Americans have now taken the presidential oath. The words have been spoken during rising tides of prosperity and the still waters of peace. Yet, every so often, the oath is taken amidst gathering clouds and raging storms. At these moments, America has carried on not simply because of the skill or vision of those in high office, but because We the People have remained faithful to the ideals of our forebearers, and true to our founding documents.

So it has been. So it must be with this generation of Americans.

That we are in the midst of crisis is now well understood. Our nation is at war, against a far-reaching network of violence and hatred. Our economy is badly weakened, a consequence of greed and irresponsibility on the part of some, but also our collective failure to make hard choices and prepare the nation for a new age. Homes have been lost; jobs shed; businesses shuttered. Our health care is too costly; our schools fail too many; and each day brings further evidence that the ways we use energy strengthen our adversaries and threaten our planet. Video Watch the full inauguration speech »

These are the indicators of crisis, subject to data and statistics. Less measurable but no less profound is a sapping of confidence across our land -- a nagging fear that America's decline is inevitable, and that the next generation must lower its sights.

Today I say to you that the challenges we face are real. They are serious and they are many. They will not be met easily or in a short span of time. But know this, America: They will be met.

On this day, we gather because we have chosen hope over fear, unity of purpose over conflict and discord.

On this day, we come to proclaim an end to the petty grievances and false promises, the recriminations and worn-out dogmas, that for far too long have strangled our politics.

We remain a young nation, but in the words of Scripture, the time has come to set aside childish things. The time has come to reaffirm our enduring spirit; to choose our better history; to carry forward that precious gift, that noble idea, passed on from generation to generation: the God-given promise that all are equal, all are free, and all deserve a chance to pursue their full measure of happiness.

In reaffirming the greatness of our nation, we understand that greatness is never a given. It must be earned. Our journey has never been one of shortcuts or settling for less. It has not been the path for the fainthearted -- for those who prefer leisure over work, or seek only the pleasures of riches and fame. Rather, it has been the risk-takers, the doers, the makers of things -- some celebrated, but more often men and women obscure in their labor -- who have carried us up the long, rugged path toward prosperity and freedom.

For us, they packed up their few worldly possessions and traveled across oceans in search of a new life.

For us, they toiled in sweatshops and settled the West; endured the lash of the whip and plowed the hard earth. For us, they fought and died, in places like Concord and Gettysburg; Normandy and Khe Sahn.

Time and again, these men and women struggled and sacrificed and worked till their hands were raw so that we might live a better life. They saw America as bigger than the sum of our individual ambitions; greater than all the differences of birth or wealth or faction.

This is the journey we continue today. We remain the most prosperous, powerful nation on Earth. Our workers are no less productive than when this crisis began. Our minds are no less inventive, our goods and services no less needed than they were last week or last month or last year. Our capacity remains undiminished. But our time of standing pat, of protecting narrow interests and putting off unpleasant decisions -- that time has surely passed. Starting today, we must pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and begin again the work of remaking America.

For everywhere we look, there is work to be done. The state of the economy calls for action, bold and swift, and we will act -- not only to create new jobs, but to lay a new foundation for growth. We will build the roads and bridges, the electric grids and digital lines that feed our commerce and bind us together. We will restore science to its rightful place, and wield technology's wonders to raise health care's quality and lower its cost. We will harness the sun and the winds and the soil to fuel our cars and run our factories. And we will transform our schools and colleges and universities to meet the demands of a new age. All this we can do. And all this we will do.

Now, there are some who question the scale of our ambitions -- who suggest that our system cannot tolerate too many big plans. Their memories are short. For they have forgotten what this country has already done; what free men and women can achieve when imagination is joined to common purpose, and necessity to courage.

What the cynics fail to understand is that the ground has shifted beneath them -- that the stale political arguments that have consumed us for so long no longer apply. The question we ask today is not whether our government is too big or too small, but whether it works -- whether it helps families find jobs at a decent wage, care they can afford, a retirement that is dignified. Where the answer is yes, we intend to move forward. Where the answer is no, programs will end. And those of us who manage the public's dollars will be held to account -- to spend wisely, reform bad habits, and do our business in the light of day -- because only then can we restore the vital trust between a people and their government.

Nor is the question before us whether the market is a force for good or ill. Its power to generate wealth and expand freedom is unmatched, but this crisis has reminded us that without a watchful eye, the market can spin out of control -- and that a nation cannot prosper long when it favors only the prosperous. The success of our economy has always depended not just on the size of our gross domestic product, but on the reach of our prosperity; on our ability to extend opportunity to every willing heart -- not out of charity, but because it is the surest route to our common good.

As for our common defense, we reject as false the choice between our safety and our ideals. Our Founding Fathers, faced with perils we can scarcely imagine, drafted a charter to assure the rule of law and the rights of man, a charter expanded by the blood of generations. Those ideals still light the world, and we will not give them up for expedience's sake. And so to all other peoples and governments who are watching today, from the grandest capitals to the small village where my father was born: Know that America is a friend of each nation and every man, woman and child who seeks a future of peace and dignity, and that we are ready to lead once more.

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

We are the keepers of this legacy. Guided by these principles once more, we can meet those new threats that demand even greater effort -- even greater cooperation and understanding between nations. We will begin to responsibly leave Iraq to its people, and forge a hard-earned peace in Afghanistan. With old friends and former foes, we will work tirelessly to lessen the nuclear threat, and roll back the specter of a warming planet. We will not apologize for our way of life, nor will we waver in its defense, and for those who seek to advance their aims by inducing terror and slaughtering innocents, we say to you now that our spirit is stronger and cannot be broken; you cannot outlast us, and we will defeat you.

For we know that our patchwork heritage is a strength, not a weakness. We are a nation of Christians and Muslims, Jews and Hindus -- and nonbelievers. We are shaped by every language and culture, drawn from every end of this Earth; and because we have tasted the bitter swill of civil war and segregation, and emerged from that dark chapter stronger and more united, we cannot help but believe that the old hatreds shall someday pass; that the lines of tribe shall soon dissolve; that as the world grows smaller, our common humanity shall reveal itself; and that America must play its role in ushering in a new era of peace.

To the Muslim world, we seek a new way forward, based on mutual interest and mutual respect. To those leaders around the globe who seek to sow conflict, or blame their society's ills on the West: Know that your people will judge you on what you can build, not what you destroy. To those who cling to power through corruption and deceit and the silencing of dissent, know that you are on the wrong side of history; but that we will extend a hand if you are willing to unclench your fist.

To the people of poor nations, we pledge to work alongside you to make your farms flourish and let clean waters flow; to nourish starved bodies and feed hungry minds. And to those nations like ours that enjoy relative plenty, we say we can no longer afford indifference to suffering outside our borders; nor can we consume the world's resources without regard to effect. For the world has changed, and we must change with it.

As we consider the road that unfolds before us, we remember with humble gratitude those brave Americans who, at this very hour, patrol far-off deserts and distant mountains. They have something to tell us today, just as the fallen heroes who lie in Arlington whisper through the ages. We honor them not only because they are guardians of our liberty, but because they embody the spirit of service; a willingness to find meaning in something greater than themselves. And yet, at this moment -- a moment that will define a generation -- it is precisely this spirit that must inhabit us all.

For as much as government can do and must do, it is ultimately the faith and determination of the American people upon which this nation relies. It is the kindness to take in a stranger when the levees break, the selflessness of workers who would rather cut their hours than see a friend lose their job which sees us through our darkest hours. It is the firefighter's courage to storm a stairway filled with smoke, but also a parent's willingness to nurture a child, that finally decides our fate.

Our challenges may be new. The instruments with which we meet them may be new. But those values upon which our success depends -- hard work and honesty, courage and fair play, tolerance and curiosity, loyalty and patriotism -- these things are old. These things are true. They have been the quiet force of progress throughout our history. What is demanded then is a return to these truths. What is required of us now is a new era of responsibility -- a recognition, on the part of every American, that we have duties to ourselves, our nation and the world; duties that we do not grudgingly accept but rather seize gladly, firm in the knowledge that there is nothing so satisfying to the spirit, so defining of our character, than giving our all to a difficult task.

This is the price and the promise of citizenship.

This is the source of our confidence -- the knowledge that God calls on us to shape an uncertain destiny.

This is the meaning of our liberty and our creed -- why men and women and children of every race and every faith can join in celebration across this magnificent Mall, and why a man whose father less than 60 years ago might not have been served at a local restaurant can now stand before you to take a most sacred oath.

So let us mark this day with remembrance, of who we are and how far we have traveled. In the year of America's birth, in the coldest of months, a small band of patriots huddled by dying campfires on the shores of an icy river. The capital was abandoned. The enemy was advancing. The snow was stained with blood. At a moment when the outcome of our revolution was most in doubt, the father of our nation ordered these words be read to the people:

advertisement

"Let it be told to the future world ... that in the depth of winter, when nothing but hope and virtue could survive... that the city and the country, alarmed at one common danger, came forth to meet [it]."

America. In the face of our common dangers, in this winter of our hardship, let us remember these timeless words. With hope and virtue, let us brave once more the icy currents, and endure what storms may come. Let it be said by our children's children that when we were tested, we refused to let this journey end, that we did not turn back, nor did we falter; and with eyes fixed on the horizon and God's grace upon us, we carried forth that great gift of freedom and delivered it safely to future generations.

Pot Holes

People are having to zig zag around these pot holes in order to keep from totaling their cars .

When I first saw these pictures I thought to myself , " Oh , look ! A picture of Tripoli somewhere ." I looked closer and realized it wasn't Tripoli at all , it was somewhere else . BUT it could have very easily have been since we do have pot holes even larger than these on some main roads that have a lot of heavy traffic on them . Scroll down to the last picture . You're gonna love this one ! Too bad we can't say our roads are like this too .

The make believe pot holes are moved from street to street often . They are used as speed bumps , to slow the traffic down . In Tripoli this would just be considered a minor inconvenience added to the list of bad road conditions faced daily .

Quote Of The Day

Whatever you give a woman , she will make greater .

If you give her sperm , she will make you a baby .

If you give hare a house , she will give you a home .

If you give her groceries , she'll give you a meal .

If you give her a smile , she will give her heart .

She will multiply and enlarge whatever is given to her .

SO .... if you give her any crap , be ready to receive a ton of shit !

Only 2 More Days !

Things have been slow around here this last week . Not too much happening . I think the high point of the whole week was when I called Sheila to confirm my appointment for this past Thursday and found out it wasn't until SUNDAY .

I had been counting the DAYS until I was to go see Sheila on Thursday , lol . I'd say " only 3 more days until I go to Sheila's . Or , it's only 1 more day until I go to Sheila's to get rid of this big black strip running down the middle of my head ! " . LOL !

I almost couldn't hear her voice as she told me I had the wrong day , so in shock was I ! I got off the phone and went to the mirror . I stared at my hair with a inch long very obviously NOT blond roots showing . Hair that is no longer manageable when I try to style it . Where EVERY DAY is a bad hair day and thought to myself ... Oh woe is me ! What in the World are all of Sheila's customers to do when she goes home to visit ?

We all wonder this every year when the time fast approaches for her to take her annual trip back home to see her family there in the States .I don't know about the rest of her customers , but I sometimes HATE her family in the States ! I know it is very selfish of me but I can't help it .

You are probably wondering why we don't get some one else to do our hair while she is gone visiting her family , right ? Well , some of us do find a surrogate Sheila .

I have a hard time doing this personally . It is too much like cheating on your lover , being unfaithful so to speak . A good hair dresser is more important to a woman than even her lover . Your hair dresser is more than the person that knows your head inside and out , but if they are really great , like Sheila , they know your deepest secrets too .They share your victories and your heartaches . They cry along with you when your dreams are shattered . They encourage you when you feel weak and they love you anyway ,or at least they let you think they do .LOL !

In my life I have had 3 hairdressers / stylist and I mourned them all when they were gone from my life for whatever reason . When we moved here , my hair grew down my back because no one here knows how to cut straight hair properly . I kept hearing about this American woman that does hair and was good, for years before I went to see her . It was love at 1st sight . I had found a home at long last again with Sheila .

Most of us know that there will be a time in the future , when she will decide to retire .We discuss this every now and then , what we will do when she does retire . Just like we talk about what we are going to do with our hair while she is gone on her annual trips home .So far , no one has come up with a solution yet . We have tried to talk Sheila into taking on apprentice , but she says she doesn't have the time to teach some one what it took her a life time to learn .

I really can't see her sitting around daydreaming like me when she does decide to retire . No , Sheila is a busy person . Always on the move and doing something , even when she isn't working . She loves people too much to take to retirement easily . Hopefully she will never retire .

Just in case you think this is all about the HAIR , let me say now , it isn't . It is more than that when you go to Sheila's . It is the whole experience . The talk . The treatment . The trust . The love she shares with you and the care you have in common . I do see Sheila not only on a professional basis , but also as a friend . Many of us do . She is our friend as well and that is most likely the real reason we miss her so when she goes on Walk About .

Only 2 more days until I go to Sheila's !

Morales Police And New Roads

Yesterday evening was nice . I went to a friends house for a get together of a few friends . She had just bought new furniture and wanted us to celebrate with her . She said it took her 18 years to get it and now she wanted to show it off , lol . She went all out on refreshments for us too , which was so nice to eat something delicious that you didn't have to cook for yourself for a change ! We really had a nice time chit chatting away about nothing earth shaking .

Today was spent doing nothing much . We slept most of the day since we were up very late last night . This afternoon we took a ride around the neighborhood .Went down some of the new roads that were made this past year . Right after they were laid , the area was so clean and neat . No trash or rubble from building . Today it was a different story . It is beginning to look just like the rest of Libya sad to say . Trash laying along the road . Bits and pieces of building materials laying around and dirt everywhere . It just doesn't take long long to ruin virgin land here .Oh , and speaking of new roads , there is a rumor that a German company is in charge of laying the many new projected roads here in Libya. They say the new company will start to work on the roads again this month . Waiting to see how this goes .

Moe and I were out and about one day last week doing errands here in Tajura . A lot of times when we have finished what we have to do , we will get sandwiches to eat in the car somewhere on the beach . We watch the terns fishing . The small fishing boats out at sea dragging their nets , or the larger freighters coming into port laden with all kinds of goods . Always something to see when we are on the beach .

Many times in the past years we have driven by the beach and seen many cars with young lovers , couples , and even a family or two just enjoying the view . The last few years the lovers have sorta taken over the beaches .Young guys will drive by parked cars looking for women to pick up that are being pimped out by the driver of the car the women are in . This has caused many a family to stop going to the beach just to have a relaxing time . They don't want to be thought of as " one of THOSE people " .

Moe told me that last week the Morales Police started a round up of such people here in Tripoli and also the beach areas . Things must have been completely out of hand for this to have happened, since I haven't seen or heard of the Morales Police since the 1970's . They were everywhere back then . God help you if you were caught in a car or anywhere else , with someone you were not supposed to be with back then !

I wondered how much effect that had on the "parkers". When we were on the beach last week , things looked just like nothing had changed . There were many cars with young kids University age sitting in their cars and it didn't look like there was a whole lot of conversation taking place between the participants , if you know what I mean . And for those of you asking me what the Big Deal Is , well , this is a Muslim country for one thing and these are kids that their parents would NOT be to thrilled if they were caught doing what some of them were doing . And if the police were to catch them , they could be in a world of big trouble and scandal here that could follow them the rest of their lives . It is a very small world here . Every one knows everyone else in Libya or they are related.People here ALL love to gossip !! Especially if it ISN"T THEIR KID ! Now if they would concentrate on the drug dealers all over town , that would be nice .

Mauritania Here I Come !

Big is beautiful !!!!

Way back in Nov. or sometime in Dec. , 2008 we saw a Oprah show on T.V. that talked about beauty secrets and customs around the world .This show mentioned that in Mauritania big WAS beautiful and adored . The fatter you were the better . You couldn't be too fat as a matter of fact . You could be fat , divorced , one eyed and STILL get married there , lol . Just as long as you were FAT !

I looked at Moe and told him to pack the bags baby , we were moving to the Motherland ! I was jumping up and down singing Mauritania here we come ! He said but you are already married , to me by the way , in case you forgot . I said yes, but at least there I would be thought of as wonderfully sexy and he could go around acting all macho and brave protecting me from all the admires I would have ! He just wasn't getting the whole picture I told him .He didn't see it my way of course . We are still in Tripoli........ for the time being .

Heaven Weeps

Politics of the Middle East I try to stay out of because there isn't a winner in that conflict , only losers , with civilians caught in the middle . Here are some of the story's I have read today in various places . Draw your own conclusions .

Downing Street has said it is "appalled" at the deteriorating situation in the Gaza Strip after a third day of Israeli air strikes on the Palestinian enclave.

Smoke rises from explosions following a fresh round of Israeli air-strikes

Smoke rises from explosions following a fresh round of Israeli air-strikes

As the death toll rose above 325 and Israel promised a "war to the bitter end". This report is from Sky News .

Israel destroys Hamas homes, flattens Gaza mosque

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip – Israel bombed a mosque ...... the seventh day of a blistering offensive in Gaza........ They said the Israelis either warned nearby residents by phone or fired a warning missile to reduce civilian casualties. Israeli planes also dropped leaflets east of Gaza giving a confidential phone number and e-mail address for people to report locations of rocket squads. Residents stepped over the leaflets........... More than 400 Gazans have been killed and some 1,700 have been wounded in the Israeli campaign, Gaza health officials said. ...........explosion killed 20 people, including all four of Rayan's wives and 10 of his children.

Then this photo post by Lawrence Of Cyberia :

"Quite Right, President Weizman",making you ask ourselves where is the basic human rights that Israel is constantly reminding the world community they deserve .I guess they deserve it ,but just not the rest of the world and definitely Not the Palestinians .

The Jerusalem Post is reporting that Israeli forces on Monday morning struck key centers in Gaza City, including Islamic University,Witnesses saw fire and smoke at the university, counting six separate air strikes there just after midnight.

Samera Baalusha (34) carries her surviving child Mohamad (15 months) while she waits to see the body of her daughter Jawaher Baalusha (aged 4) during the funeral held for her and four of her sisters who were killed in an Israeli missile strike, on December 29, 2008 in the Jebaliya refugee camp, in the northern Gaza Strip.

WallWritings reports in his blog a story by Amira Hass who writes for Ha'aretz, on the carefulness by Israel as to the timing of the bombings in Gaza ..... "Whoever gave the instructions to send 100 of our planes, piloted by the best of our boys, to bomb and strafe enemy targets in Gaza is familiar with the many schools adjacent to those targets - especially police stations. He also knew that at exactly 11:30 A.M. on Saturday, during the surprise assault on the enemy, all the children of the Strip would be in the streets - half just having finished the morning shift at school, the others en route to the afternoon shift. " I think that says a lot huh ?

And this says it all from David :

As Israeli armored vehicles and troops were massed along the border for a possible invasion, Israeli warplanes pressed on with strikes, killing 12 Palestinians, including a pair of sisters, 10 and 12, in attacks on Hamas targets. Oooops missed again!
