Jokes From The Land Of The Flu

Things here are still basically the same in the Land Of The Flu . Moe and I are struggling to keep things up around the Condo . We had to call in reinforcements this week to help us out with the shopping , our son . That turned into a wonderful bonus because not only did he do the shopping for me , but then he cook a huge pot of chicken soup with all sorts if yummy veggies in it . I haven't had to cook for several days now and it sure was a big help.

Our son has always enjoyed cooking . He had his own cook book when he was just a little guy . He would always want to help out in the kitchen when I cooked ,as a little boy . The rule was , when you were tall enough to be able to look into the tallest pot sitting on the stove , then you could do some actual cooking over the fire ... with supervision of course .

Moe used to take the kids with him to work, to one of our restaurants in Houston, once in a while . They would come home with all sorts of adventures to share with me . They had learned how to peel garlic , or almost got locked up in the wine cellar, or the chief threatened to cut their ears off if they didn't stop nagging him for shrimp ,or in our youngest ones case , lime sherbet ! They were spoiled rotten by all the staff .

The best part was they learned to enjoy all sorts of new foods that most childern their ages never tasted . They LOVED escargot , frog leggs , and Beef Wellinton . They had to be on their best behavior and were taught wonderful table manners so we could take them into any resturante and not annoy the other patrons dinnig there also . They loved these experences and it has helped them later in other life situations .

Now to change the conversation ...... I got this in a email today and liked it . Thought you might like it too . Have a great day !

Adventures Of Having The Flu

I think I mentioned in a previous post recently that Moe and I had the flu . We still have the flu . I am getting pretty sick and tired of being sick and tired with this flu !!! All I do is cough , blow my nose ,moan and groan .

I now have laryngitis and can't talk . I have been reduced to talking in sign language with Moe and that is pretty funny sometimes ! Like when my friends call to talk to me , instead of telling them I can't talk because I have lost my voice , he simply tells them I can't talk . Well , to him it is all the same thing , but to them , they probably think I don't WANT to talk to them . Do you see the difference ?

Anyway ..... now that he has come down with a much milder form of the flu than me , he seems to think he has cornered the market on dieing !I never knew a man could moan and groan so much!
All last week when I was sicker than he is now , he wanted me to take him into town and when I begged off because I was running a fever and couldn't stand up , he would get mad at me . Now he is suffering from a sore throat , he thinks he is dieing ! When I reminded him of last week and the way he treated me when I was so sick , he looks at me like I've lost my mind .

We both are on antibiotics and they are helping a lot . When I 1st came down with this flu , I would try to sleep and couldn't no matter how badly I wanted to . Just the last few days have I been able to sleep more than an hour or two at a time . How nice it is to sleep restfully or as restfully as it is possible when you are coughing all the time . We are drinking lots of fluids and just take things as they come . One good thing about this flu for me is nothing taste good , not even chocolate , so am losing weight . And of course Moe is thrilled over the sound of silence in the house .Now that you are thoroughly bored out of your minds by this terrible blow by blow detailed account of our flu adventures , I will say bye for now . Stay well , OTE

What's Going On At The Condo

Wow ! I can't believe this week is almost over . Time is just flying by . Last week our son's family stayed with us so I could help out with the new baby Yousef, and our other grandson Haroun. It was a busy week filled with all sorts of new adventures .

Yousef is a good baby and really doesn't require much attention but he definitely gets more than his share , lol . Haroun wasn't too sure if he liked his new baby or not . He certainly didn't like Yousef when he cried at night . I think it was the 2nd or the 3rd night they were staying with us , around about 3 a.m. , when Yousef woke up wanting to be feed. He started to cry. He sounds a lot like a kitten when he cry's .That woke Haroun up and he wasn't too happy about being woke up by that Baby ! He started to cry as well . Very loudly too , I might add .So , there they were both crying , when I heard my daughter in law say with near madness in her voice , " Oh My GOD what do I do"? I know it was mean but I couldn't help but laugh to myself . I remember those times with my kids when they were little.

Having them with us meant we had visitors coming over to see the new baby .That's good but what I disliked and still marvel at, was the stupidity of the people that came over with the flu . Can you believe that ? What Were They Thinking ??? Exposing a new born baby to the flu ? Now Moe and I both have the flu . Thankfully the babies are all ok .

Speaking of the flu ... it seems everyone here has some form of this cold/ flu. Either it is a head cold with the sniffles or a chest cold with the congestion and a hacking cough . Some people have fever and some don't . It is probably NOT the FLU but just a cold making the rounds .Anyway you look at it , if you have it , you are miserable !Hopefully it will only last a few days .

One of my friends is throwing a get together in a couple of weeks for the American women here in Tripoli. We haven't  had a chance to see one another before the summer . Many went home this past summer and started right back to work when they  returned to Tripoli . A few of us have talked or seen one another briefly but not all of us together  in one place at the same time . I am really looking forward to this party . My friend is too , since this will be her 1st get together for all of us at her home . Actually she is very excited  . She is insisting on making this a dual party ; a get together / baby shower for our new grandson . I keep telling her that she doesn't need to do this but it is like talking to a brick wall , lol .

While I am rambling on here ( it's the meds ! LOL !) .... our Condo needs painting .GROAN !!!!!! I would rather just pack up and move to a new place than have painters in to paint .1st you have to find some one you want in your home around your things that you can trust .2nd you have to remove ALL furniture , carpets , drapes , and anything else you don't want paint all over when they finish . The painters come in your home and make a horrible mess , paint all over everthing even a little on the walls , but mostly on the doors , windows , and the floors .You pay them a arm and a leg, or two. Afterwards YOU have the priveldge of cleaning up their mess when they leave your home .THEN you have to put everything BACK where it was before you deconstructed your home for painting .It would just be easier to move ! I hate it when we have to paint . I am hoping we can put off painting until the next decade , lol .I gota go now and blow my nose before it drips all over the keyboard . Bye , OTE

Some Reading For You

I was reading Khadijateri's blog and came across her reference to My Enchanting Sereeb blog post on her recent visit back to Libya and laughed myself silly because she is so real about everything she went through on her visit . Some of it was sad too because as some one once said , " you can never go home again " .

I also came across this post by My Being Days which is a pictorial composition of the similarities between Nazi Germany's treatment of the Jews in WW2 and the Israeli's treatment of the Palestinians now in Gaza . You should see the pictures . See if you can spot any difference between the THEN and the NOW . I bet you can't .

Not Your Daddy's Country

I think I am gonna live , well , maybe . Still recovering from the flu that I had all last week .It has settled into my chest . I thought I was gonna die a couple of times . I remember thinking once or twice it might not be such a bad thing if I did .

So, in between sleeping and coughing up my lungs last week , I played cards on the computer to pass the time . I like to listen to music at the same time . This was perfect. A while back a friend had given me a load of mixed music to download onto my computer .I have been lazy, never getting around to breaking it up into genre's . SO , while listening to the music , I decided I would do just that , categorizing hard rock , rock , indie , jazz, blues , classical , and country into separate files .

Aaaah , I rediscovered country . Never was a big country fan growing up , and really never found it interesting until the whole Urban Cowboy thing came along in the 80's. Of course everyone in Houston became a cowboy when John Travolta came to town and Mickey Gilly's to film that movie , even me . I had a hat, boots, the whole nine yards ! But so did all of Houston , even the Yuppies ! LOL ! But after the fad passed I put the hat in the hat box on the top shelf of my closet to gather dust out of sight . That was my very short lived affair , well not a affair really, it was more like a flirtation, with country music .

I sat listening to all these different genre of music sneezing , snuffling among a mountain of crumpled tissues, coughing until I was blue in the face ,when I had a Eureka moment ! I rediscovered the NEW COUNTRY music . It is New and definitely Improved . I heard all about "Acky Breaky Heart"s , "Boot Scootting Boogie"s , saying "Good Bye To Earl".One husband asked his self "What Kinda Gone" was his wife talking about as she slammed the door on her way out . I heard THE song , the one that spoke to me ( truthfully , I ashamedly admit there were a ton of these ! LOL ) but this one made me remember all those times when I wanted to say "Gone " to Moe , too . It made me laugh . A woman declares she is out the door and on her way "Down In Mississippi Up To No Good" . Sort of a Thelma and Louise thing with her and her friends. I became reacquainted with "I Love A Rainy Night" which brought back a flood of wonderful memories of rainy nights gone by . A different song finds another husband worrying how "Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off " when he hears his wife is going to have a Girls Night Out . Country has come a long way from Your Daddy's country music . I tried to include links so you could enjoy these songs too , but didn't manager to get it to work . Maybe if you haven't already heard these songs you might investigate them on your own and find a whole new world waiting for your adventurous soul .
