Adventures Indiana Jones Style
Hi ! Guess what ? The other day Moe and I were doing our usual coffee runs in the neighborhood while checking out some of the new roads that have been paved in Tagura . I drove down this new road that we hadn't been down before .We saw the normal things , houses , feilds , sheep and what not but then an unsuaul sight caught my eye just by accident . A pile of rubble along side of the road had been moved away from a old roof top of what looked to be a Roman villa buried in the sand . It looked as if when the rubble had been moved , the top layer of the dirt was scrapped off ,or a corner was exposed to sight .Someone had dug even futher down where the door to the house was and it looks as if part of it was excavated , maybe . I will definitly go back and take pictures for you to see . That was pretty exciting to see . It looks as if not too many people have seen this site so far .I wish I was able to crawl inside to inspect it for myself .So neato ! I felt like Indian Jones when I saw the house sticking up out of the ground .

Morales Police And New Roads
Yesterday evening was nice . I went to a friends house for a get together of a few friends . She had just bought new furniture and wanted us to celebrate with her . She said it took her 18 years to get it and now she wanted to show it off , lol . She went all out on refreshments for us too , which was so nice to eat something delicious that you didn't have to cook for yourself for a change ! We really had a nice time chit chatting away about nothing earth shaking .
Today was spent doing nothing much . We slept most of the day since we were up very late last night . This afternoon we took a ride around the neighborhood .Went down some of the new roads that were made this past year . Right after they were laid , the area was so clean and neat . No trash or rubble from building . Today it was a different story . It is beginning to look just like the rest of Libya sad to say . Trash laying along the road . Bits and pieces of building materials laying around and dirt everywhere . It just doesn't take long long to ruin virgin land here .Oh , and speaking of new roads , there is a rumor that a German company is in charge of laying the many new projected roads here in Libya. They say the new company will start to work on the roads again this month . Waiting to see how this goes .
Moe and I were out and about one day last week doing errands here in Tajura . A lot of times when we have finished what we have to do , we will get sandwiches to eat in the car somewhere on the beach . We watch the terns fishing . The small fishing boats out at sea dragging their nets , or the larger freighters coming into port laden with all kinds of goods . Always something to see when we are on the beach .
Many times in the past years we have driven by the beach and seen many cars with young lovers , couples , and even a family or two just enjoying the view . The last few years the lovers have sorta taken over the beaches .Young guys will drive by parked cars looking for women to pick up that are being pimped out by the driver of the car the women are in . This has caused many a family to stop going to the beach just to have a relaxing time . They don't want to be thought of as " one of THOSE people " .
Moe told me that last week the Morales Police started a round up of such people here in Tripoli and also the beach areas . Things must have been completely out of hand for this to have happened, since I haven't seen or heard of the Morales Police since the 1970's . They were everywhere back then . God help you if you were caught in a car or anywhere else , with someone you were not supposed to be with back then !
I wondered how much effect that had on the "parkers". When we were on the beach last week , things looked just like nothing had changed . There were many cars with young kids University age sitting in their cars and it didn't look like there was a whole lot of conversation taking place between the participants , if you know what I mean . And for those of you asking me what the Big Deal Is , well , this is a Muslim country for one thing and these are kids that their parents would NOT be to thrilled if they were caught doing what some of them were doing . And if the police were to catch them , they could be in a world of big trouble and scandal here that could follow them the rest of their lives . It is a very small world here . Every one knows everyone else in Libya or they are related.People here ALL love to gossip !! Especially if it ISN"T THEIR KID ! Now if they would concentrate on the drug dealers all over town , that would be nice .

Now You See It , Now You Don't
I had a surprise today . I drove over to visit my friend and got lost . She only lives two streets over from me . I have been to her house so many times I could draw a map in my sleep to her house, but today I got lost . WHY ???? Her sister in laws house across the street from hers was torn down yesterday .That meant the whole face of her street looked so different that it was unrecognizable . First thing , the house that was in the middle of the street, was gone now . Second the palm trees were all gone . The pile of rubble was so high that I didn't even notice my friends house as I drove by .I was busy wondering what had happened to the neighborhood .I noticed I had passed up my turn off when I came to the end of the street .I turned around and looked closely this time .Imagine my surprise when I discovered what had happened . I had driven by there two days ago and all was normal .
I had some errands to run in another part of the City today also .This time I am driving down a street I use almost every other day . I notice a gap in the shops on my right hand side of the street .Two days ago there had been shops there , now there was nothing . A new street in the making .Amazing ! Just like that a new road . Wonder if they will ever get around to naming the streets here . A few streets have names and in certain area's you will even see street signs on the sides of buildings .But mostly you go by land marks here when giving instructions to people coming to your home or places of interest .Now all the land marks are gone , what will we do ? Tell people to go to the 3rd pot hole in the long and wending road by the white multi storied building with gold windows ? Tee hee !
Once some of the American women were met by people of the US government here in Libya. They wanted our home addresses in case of a emergency to contact us .Imagine our amusement when faced with that request . Then we were asked to draw a map to our homes . That was a even more difficult request to fulfill than the addresses . LOL !!I don't think many of us complied with those request because of the impossibility of it all . Maybe once all these new roads are built , named, and a city map is drawn up we will be able to comply , but until then ..... you go down the long road with the big hole in it , turn left at the crocked tree , go 2 kilometers down that road , take a sharp turn right at the wall that has collapsed ...... Can't wait to see you there , LOL !
