A Wonderful Day

Wonderful things happened today .One, our youngest grandaughter turned one years old today .It might snow in Houston ... just for her of course ! Two , I went to Sheila's this morning looking like I don't know what, and left looking gorgeous, skinner, and years younger ! I tell you that woman is pure magic . See why I waited 11 months for her to come back home ? It was well worth the wait , as where ever I went later in the day , there were sighs of relife and smiles of achknowlegment for my new "doo" ! I think if I had to wear my hair in a pony tail one more day I would have shaved all my hair off ! Hope your day was magical too !

Only 2 More Days !

Things have been slow around here this last week . Not too much happening . I think the high point of the whole week was when I called Sheila to confirm my appointment for this past Thursday and found out it wasn't until SUNDAY .

I had been counting the DAYS until I was to go see Sheila on Thursday , lol . I'd say " only 3 more days until I go to Sheila's . Or , it's only 1 more day until I go to Sheila's to get rid of this big black strip running down the middle of my head ! " . LOL !

I almost couldn't hear her voice as she told me I had the wrong day , so in shock was I ! I got off the phone and went to the mirror . I stared at my hair with a inch long very obviously NOT blond roots showing . Hair that is no longer manageable when I try to style it . Where EVERY DAY is a bad hair day and thought to myself ... Oh woe is me ! What in the World are all of Sheila's customers to do when she goes home to visit ?

We all wonder this every year when the time fast approaches for her to take her annual trip back home to see her family there in the States .I don't know about the rest of her customers , but I sometimes HATE her family in the States ! I know it is very selfish of me but I can't help it .

You are probably wondering why we don't get some one else to do our hair while she is gone visiting her family , right ? Well , some of us do find a surrogate Sheila .

I have a hard time doing this personally . It is too much like cheating on your lover , being unfaithful so to speak . A good hair dresser is more important to a woman than even her lover . Your hair dresser is more than the person that knows your head inside and out , but if they are really great , like Sheila , they know your deepest secrets too .They share your victories and your heartaches . They cry along with you when your dreams are shattered . They encourage you when you feel weak and they love you anyway ,or at least they let you think they do .LOL !

In my life I have had 3 hairdressers / stylist and I mourned them all when they were gone from my life for whatever reason . When we moved here , my hair grew down my back because no one here knows how to cut straight hair properly . I kept hearing about this American woman that does hair and was good, for years before I went to see her . It was love at 1st sight . I had found a home at long last again with Sheila .

Most of us know that there will be a time in the future , when she will decide to retire .We discuss this every now and then , what we will do when she does retire . Just like we talk about what we are going to do with our hair while she is gone on her annual trips home .So far , no one has come up with a solution yet . We have tried to talk Sheila into taking on apprentice , but she says she doesn't have the time to teach some one what it took her a life time to learn .

I really can't see her sitting around daydreaming like me when she does decide to retire . No , Sheila is a busy person . Always on the move and doing something , even when she isn't working . She loves people too much to take to retirement easily . Hopefully she will never retire .

Just in case you think this is all about the HAIR , let me say now , it isn't . It is more than that when you go to Sheila's . It is the whole experience . The talk . The treatment . The trust . The love she shares with you and the care you have in common . I do see Sheila not only on a professional basis , but also as a friend . Many of us do . She is our friend as well and that is most likely the real reason we miss her so when she goes on Walk About .

Capital "P" & More !

In my previous post , Spot a Lair Quiz , I did pretty well . I owe it all to raising kids , I think , lol ! I helped raise my sisters nine children . I did tons of babysitting when I was a teenager too . Then I married and had my own children . I could almost always tell when they were lying as little children because they would get this funny expression around their eyes and mouth , like Bill Cosby does when he is trying to pull a fast one on one of his TV sitcom shows . I can't describe it, but you know he is lying when you see that LOOK ! And so where my kids , lol ! To this day I can still see that look on their faces and I just have to laugh at them because I KNOW what's up ! LOL !

Today I went to " Beauty Street " as Khadijateri calls it . It is the whole sale district for beauty products all on one street !!! Every womans dream come true , AND all at a discount !!!!! I mean what more could a woman want ? I went for hair color . I am thinking of having Shelia throw some red high lights in the next time I go see her . So I needed some of that , then I saw this wonderful lipstick I couldn't pass up . Somewhere along the line of shops I bought a Chinese fan to use during weddings when they get hot and stuffy . I saw some rather exotic electric blue glittery eye line that I barely passed up . And my friend that went with me bought some promised soothing spa like bubble bath that is supposed to transport you to some place other than where you where at the time of the bath ! I am waiting to see how that went for her . Maybe she went to some place MORE exotic than Libya ?

All my friends are going to see Sheila , or have already been to see her. They are all looking MARVELOUS DARLINK ! I am trying to work out a schedule around Ramadan . If I go too early then I have to go twice and if I leave it too late then I end up looking ... well ... AWFUL !!!! Oh help , I am a damsel in distress !!! What to do ? LOL !

They are paving the street out in front of the Condo now . They have raised the road bed , put a rock foundation down , packed that real good , and now are laying the asphalt . Looks like this winter back strokes are out . I think we can sell the ARK too . Had Moe building one on the balcony this past year JUST in CASE we have the usual flooded street when the rains come in the winter . In the past you needed a boat just to get in and out because the road flooded so badly . Now , we have a real paved road ! Oh , HALLELUJAH and Happy Days ! This winter I will confidently drive over to my friend and neighbor knowing that somewhere under all that water is a paved road, not mud , waiting to suck me down to the depths of the underworld ! More PROGRESS WITH A CAPITAL "P" !!!!

This And That

I would like to wish all mothers everywhere a Happy Mother's Day . It is Mother's day in America today. I think mothers all over the world deserve a special day today , whether or not they are in America , or Americans . Most countries have their own Mothers Day celebrations, but hey , you can NEVER tell your mom enough just how much she means to you , how you appreciate all the things she does for you and the family , right ?


Moe and I went grocery shopping the other day and I was astounded how much the price of everything has gone up ! Almost twice the average price and it is not even Ramadan !!!!We ended up paying double what our normal list of things cost us in the past .Guess we will have to start to grow our own veggies soon if this keeps up .Maybe get a cow and some chickens too ? I will be the Old Mac Donald farmer , like in the children's song before long , lol .


Today I went to Sheila to have the works .I look marvelous darlink !!!! My hair was cut and styled .I had streaks of red mixed in with the blond for fun .My toe nails are a lush pink that gives me pleasure when ever I look down upon them . My brows look like dove wings gently arched .My skin is satiny smooth from her message .Oh , Sheila , we will never let you leave us for so long again . Who else will pampers us so divinely ?


Yesterday I spent sometime with a friend that I NEVER get to see, or hardly talk to any more since she started her own business several years ago . She is always busy with her larger family or her business .It is a rare day for her to have spare time to just spend on her self .That's what made yesterday so wonderful for me , knowing that we shared that time together having so much fun . We went for a ride into the country side we both love .Then we went by to see The Wall on our land , lol . After that, we bought some sinful goodies to take to the Condo On The Sea where we had an old fashion talk-a- thong while we ate our goodies .Really a wonderful time with a great friend .It can't get better than that !Last night my daughters called to wish me a Happy Mothers day from America and completed my day !


On some of the Arabic TV channels here there is a commercial for AXE deodorant that has a English teacher teaching adults English . She is showing them pictures of different things and saying the words for them ; like cat , cow, and one is of a dog. A cute guy walks into her class and she says " Boom Chicka WOW WOW ".Her students all repeat what she says . It is so funny . Now in stores here when ever anyone wants to buy the deodorant , they don't ask for it by it's name , they ask for that" boom chicka wow wow " spray , lol ! My friend that is a English teacher says that other countries have a different version of that same phrase on their commercials too .
