Got The Christmas Blues
There are like 8 more days until Christmas and I am sooo home sick for all the festivities my family in the US are enjoying .I am DYING because I keep thinking about all the bargin sales that can be had in every store right now.I want to shop til I drop . I want to by a Christmas tree and decorate it. I want to drink eggnog , and I don't particularly like eggnog , lol .I want to go looking at Christmas lights at night with my kids and grandaughters for their 1st time .I want to go to parties too . And have Christmas dinner with all the trimmings !I want to eat stupid nasty fruit cake that no one ever likes, but eats, because that's what you do at Christmas .I want the whole thing !Oh well , there is always tomorrow Scarlet !

Got Gas !
I guess it has been a while since I last posted huh ? Been doing some of this and some of that , but not a whole lot of any of it , if I can get by with it .
The big project of the week was grocery shopping this past Saturday, which of course , my luck , wasn't so cut and dry .When ever I have to buy grocery's or have a ton of shopping to do , I try to get one my friends sons to carry the bags up the many stairs for me since that is way beyond my ability anymore .I of course bribe them shamelessly and they accept happily .BUT ..... they are growing up and are becoming too proud to do this much anymore . Their mother nags them into Thank God !I really don't know what we would do with out them to tell the truth .But in order to use their services , I have to do these errands on a Saturday when they are off from school .They like to sleep late and so do I , so that works out fine most times , BUT this last Saturday was different.
I needed a new tank of propane cooking gas, as the one I was using ran out in the middle of baking a casserole ,of course ! So ? You say ? Well , you see , the petrol station has tanks of propane gas , but they come only on certain days of the week and go quickly . That day isn't a Saturday , of course . Wouldn't that make my life easy ? There is a little hole in the wall place that sells the gas tanks not too far from the Condo.Most of the times their tanks are fairly newish and do not leak .This is important as there is nothing worse than NOT waking up in the morning due to dying in the night from being gassed to death by a leaky gas tank , right?
One problem with this little place,the man that works it takes his siesta to heart and has one everyday promptly at 1:30 in the afternoon . He doesn't reopen until around 5 P.M.ish . Ok , well.....the boys don't like to wake up before 2 P.M.ish and are not very happy with me when I make them wake up earlier .Especially when this involves carrying very heavy things like gas tanks up flights of stairs .
My friend and I managed to convince one of the boys that it would be well worth his while to wake up early on his day off and do the gas tank for me .I go get the guy . Drive to the Condo , wait in the car while he goes up and gets the old tank , brings it down to the car , puts into the trunk of the car and away we go to get the new tank from the hole in the wall place. Sigh !
We get there . The pickings are slim this time around , which means the gas station didn't get their tank supply this past week.The man has had a run on his supply's . I remind my guy to make SURE the tank doesn't leak . Be SURE to check it . Ok he says !He picks one puts it into the car trunk and away we go to the Condo .By the time we get there we can already smell that distinctive rat poison smell that the gas has pouring out of the car trunk when it was opened .Oh DAM !So .... we get back in the car and dash back over to the place to make an exchange of tanks .The man was closed . Gone for siesta time and not coming back until early evening .Double dam !!Now what to do ?
If I have managed to get one of the boys so early in the day , it is a cinch I won't find them anywhere after 5 P.M. when the place will have opened back up .What to do ? I think about it for a few minutes and come up with what I think is a fool proof plan .I tell the guy I will pay him when I pick him back up around 5ish to change the gas tanks and he agrees . Yeah !!!Problem solved .
5 P.M. rolls around.I go down to the car and smell that smell . I open the car door and wave after wave of gas comes pouring out of the car .Thank God no one lite a cigarette near my car !It would have blown up like a terrorist car bomb!After I air the car out I drive to the boys house to get the boy . I honk my horn , which is the signal to come down to my car , and no kid . Shock horror !I honk again and still no kid .Finally after a 15 minute wait a different kid comes down to go with me.Ok , whatever , a kid , that's all I need .We drive back to the place . The guy there laughs when my guy tells him our tank leaks and we need to exchange it .He points out one he thinks will be ok .We take a chance and get it .
We get to the Condo. He hauls it up all the stairs . We connect it to the stove . The I light the burner to see if it works .I then found out why it doesn't leak .... hardly any pressure ! Oh well , at least it sorta works .I have a tank and am not complaining at all ! It only takes 3 hours to cook a meal now , as opposed to 1 hour before ,but hey , who cares . Another adventure brought to you by Life in Libya !

My News In English
Been pretty busy this week and last week . Moe thought he was going to go out of town for a vacation . That needed all sorts of planning , running to and fro for things he might need , or wanted for his trip . All that rush , rush doing this or that and the man is still here ! OMG !
I had planned on all sorts of fun for myself while he was gone . I was going to sleep as long as I liked . NO PLANNED MEALS !!!! No cooking !!!! Eat ice cream in bed while reading a good book .Visiting friends , going to weddings , having some clothes made for myself . Many of these things I can still and will do , but half the fun is NOT having to do all the everyday things I do normally for him . A mini vacation for me but with all the comforts of home thrown in , lol ! Maybe he will go after all , keep your fingers crossed for me , lol !
It has been the Annual Pre Ramadan clean out the freezer thing this past week end . I made a solemn vow this year as I hammered the ice off the sides of the freezer ..... next year , I WILL HAVE A FROST FREE FREEZER AND REFRIGERATOR ... or else ! Or else what I am not too sure but definitely a OR ELSE !
In the mean time , I read "The Pillars Of The Earth" book and loved it the second time around . Yes , I said second time , for after all that searching for the book here and finally getting my hands on it , I realized after the very first paragraph , that I had read it when it came out in the 1980's ! Of course that was so long ago , I had forgotten most of the story so it was new again for me . Loved the book !
I have also done most of the Pre Ramadan shopping now . I am so glade that's over with !!! The prices haven't gone up too much ... so far . But I didn't notice many new food items on the shelves as in years past . But the port of Tripoli has ships stacked waiting to come in and unload their goodies for Ramadan , so maybe I just went shopping too early this year .
So nice to see the ships waiting to come in the harbor . Made me think of how things were in the 1970's when ships had to wait days to again entry to the docks to unload their cargo . At night you could see the ships lights out at sea as far as you could look , like stars on the water . Maybe it will be like that again ?
Did any of you watch the opening ceremonies for the Olympics ? OH WOW !!!! That was something else ! So fabulous !!! I loved the way the countries came in ,out of alphabetical order , like a deck of cards that had been shuffled . I appreciated the thought and planning that went into the placement of countries not on good terms with one another . I thought it was so ironic that Syria was placed in the middle between the US and Russia , lol , like a Peace Keeper , lol ! What a sense of humor those Chinese have!! I had to get up to do something and missed Libya's entrance . Does anyone have a picture of that ? If you do will you place it on the comment portion of this post . Would live to see them !

Capital "P" & More !
In my previous post , Spot a Lair Quiz , I did pretty well . I owe it all to raising kids , I think , lol ! I helped raise my sisters nine children . I did tons of babysitting when I was a teenager too . Then I married and had my own children . I could almost always tell when they were lying as little children because they would get this funny expression around their eyes and mouth , like Bill Cosby does when he is trying to pull a fast one on one of his TV sitcom shows . I can't describe it, but you know he is lying when you see that LOOK ! And so where my kids , lol ! To this day I can still see that look on their faces and I just have to laugh at them because I KNOW what's up ! LOL !
Today I went to " Beauty Street " as Khadijateri calls it . It is the whole sale district for beauty products all on one street !!! Every womans dream come true , AND all at a discount !!!!! I mean what more could a woman want ? I went for hair color . I am thinking of having Shelia throw some red high lights in the next time I go see her . So I needed some of that , then I saw this wonderful lipstick I couldn't pass up . Somewhere along the line of shops I bought a Chinese fan to use during weddings when they get hot and stuffy . I saw some rather exotic electric blue glittery eye line that I barely passed up . And my friend that went with me bought some promised soothing spa like bubble bath that is supposed to transport you to some place other than where you where at the time of the bath ! I am waiting to see how that went for her . Maybe she went to some place MORE exotic than Libya ?
All my friends are going to see Sheila , or have already been to see her. They are all looking MARVELOUS DARLINK ! I am trying to work out a schedule around Ramadan . If I go too early then I have to go twice and if I leave it too late then I end up looking ... well ... AWFUL !!!! Oh help , I am a damsel in distress !!! What to do ? LOL !
They are paving the street out in front of the Condo now . They have raised the road bed , put a rock foundation down , packed that real good , and now are laying the asphalt . Looks like this winter back strokes are out . I think we can sell the ARK too . Had Moe building one on the balcony this past year JUST in CASE we have the usual flooded street when the rains come in the winter . In the past you needed a boat just to get in and out because the road flooded so badly . Now , we have a real paved road ! Oh , HALLELUJAH and Happy Days ! This winter I will confidently drive over to my friend and neighbor knowing that somewhere under all that water is a paved road, not mud , waiting to suck me down to the depths of the underworld ! More PROGRESS WITH A CAPITAL "P" !!!!

Babies , Cats , And Food
Way back in the dark ages when I was having children , babies were covered up with blankets . According to my youngest daughter who is expecting her first baby any time now, this is no longer a done thing . Seems there is a danger of the baby smothering .I am worried the baby will freeze to death this coming winter but she assures me this won't be a problem with thick blanket type pajama's they have in America . She wore those same PJ's when she was little , while covered up with a blanket . Now my oldest daughter is pregnant also. I can't wait to hear what she will tell me "we longer do these days MOM !" LOL ! I am sure I never told my mother such things .Oh No !!!! LOL !
My cat is in heat and meowing up a storm , driving Moe,me , and I am very sure the whole building insane . Yes , I know we should and could have her spade . I have a thousand reasons why I haven't , but mainly it boils down to, I just can't do it . She is strictly a in door cat . She never goes out side .There isn't a chance she could get pregnant. She is clean of all bugs ,for those of you about to comment on how nasty it is to have a dirty animal in your home .So , if she goes insane once every three months , I guess we will have to live with it , or at least until I work up some nerve to take her and get her sniped .I wonder , do cats go through "Cat-A-Pause" ?
I forgot to mention a while back I found some Worcestershire sauce , yeah !!! Now , I see there is even A1 Steak sauce on the grocery selves here and there .It would be so nice to go to just one grocery store and find everything you want , instead of driving from shop to shop looking for the things you need to buy . Even the larger well stocked stores are never fully stocked with everything . This is so time consuming , grocery shopping . I hate it ! You go from shop to shop looking all over for that one thing you need . The prices have all gone up , and more and more you have to bag your own stuff , then haul it all to your car , go home and unpack it all .As if that wasn't enough , then I have to clean , wash, chop , slice , dice , divide it all up into individual bags , freeze it or store it , and ultimately ... cook the stuff !
I am sick of cooking three meals a day too !Every single day , imagine eating every day , all day long !Why can't Moe be considerate and only eat , oh say , every other day , once ? I mean if I were him , that's what I would do . Be considerate that's all I ask !The next time someone asks me what I do , I will answer ... COOK !
